Several times recently I returned to my computer and found
a blank screen with a small window saying the computer had
been locked. I clicked ok and the message went away and
the normal screen reappeared.

Is this due to a recent windows Xp update? How do I turn
off the locking function, since I don't need it anyway?

I'm guessing, but it sounds as if a windows security
preference has been turned on but no password was entered
(lucky you!) I think that you must enter the security
area and remove the password request.

Good luck,

Right click the desktop, properties, screen saver tab, uncheck: on resume
password protect.

That was it.
Thanks,
Dick
