computer hangs

hi,
can anyone helpe to solve my problem? when i put a cd/dvd
into the drive, the system hangs. i am using xp
professional. thanks. dom (uk)

Is your XP fully up to date via Windows Update?

If it is try physically removing your CD/DVD drive start
your computer. Shut it down. Reinstall drive. Restart. try
a disk and see what happens.
