computer hangs up upon exit of outlook

hi all

When I start Outlook 2000 to recive my latest emails. I
will be able to download the emails, but when I go to exit
or quit Outlook, upon exit my computer freezes up for 3 to
5 minutes. After the 3 to 5 minutes the computer works
okay, but will continue to monemtary hang up or feeze with
any other files I go into. When I reset or restart my
computer it will run fine until I go out again launch
Outlook and receive mail and it starts up again. I have
Nortion Anti virus running and have check for the Sasser
virus. I am clean. My wife still likes to use OLE 6.0 and
receives her emails from it. It hangs up in the same way
Outlook 2k does.

Check what plug-ins you have installed into Outlook (Tools -> Options ->
Other -> Advanced). They get closed when you exit Outlook and they
might be hanging. For example, if you have the Personal Folders Backup
plug-in it runs when you exit Outlook (but keeps outlook.exe running
until the backup has completed). If you have no plug-ins or any that
should continue running when you try to exit then check Task Manager's
Process tab to see if an instance of outlook.exe got stuck. Sometimes
it doesn't unload. Same problem occurs with winword.exe (and if you use
Word as your e-mail editor than the hung remnant processes will probably
double their occurrences). Kill outlook.exe (and winword.exe). This is
a problem that has been around for several versions, including the 2003
version.
