computer hangs for a few seconds (over and over)

My system hangs, there is a clang sound on the speakers, then in about 10-15
seconds another clang sound and it starts running again. When the system
hangs, I hit the cntl-alt del keys to see what is running; nothing strange
shows up. This cycle happens every 5 - 10 minutes. Would appreciate any
help possible.

Tom,

When you say "hangs", do you mean the Windows just seizes up?. In which
case, how long has it been happening, and when did it start, did you install
any new hardware or software around that time?
