Computer Hangs Before Windows Loading Screen

Hello,

Recently, I installed a fresh Windows XP on a partition
on my hard drive. The other partition was a backup
partition that i used. After copying over the data, I
tried to merge it with Partition Magic.

While doing that, it gave me an error and i had to
reboot. Now, it hangs before the Windows loading screen.
I hangs after 'Boot from CD...' [because i have cd as my
first boot device].

I've tried bootcfg /rebuild, fixboot, fixmbr, switched
boot sequences, repaired it. I'm all out of ideas!! Any
help would be great!! All of my data is on there!

What was the Partition Magic error? If you did not back up your data and
are concerned about it, take steps to rescue it now so you don't have
to worry about it. Either slave the drive in another machine and copy
the data over or, if you have two cd drives with one being a cd-rw, you
can boot with Knoppix and burn the data to a cd-r. Without more
information from you as to the nature of the error, I can't be more
specific.

It said 'Error executing batch file. Please reboot. All
the data is still there, I just can't boot into windows.
I'd like to get it to boot because ~18gb of data is going
to be annoying to burn...

Doing a Google for "Partition Magic error executing batch file" brought
up some links that might be useful. Basically, see if you can start
Partition Magic again. You may have forgotten to make the partition
active or may be able to fix the partitioning error. However, if any of
that 18GB of unbacked up data is really important, I'd take the time to
back it up first just in case you hose the whole setup. If you have two
cd drives, one being a cd-rw, you can boot with Knoppix (a Linux distro
that runs from cd) and use k3b to burn the data. Or you can slave the
drive in a working XP computer and copy the data over.

Good luck,

Malke
