Computer freezing

My computer just did the weirdest thing: It froze for no
apperant reason, so i restart, after 5 minutes i heard
two beeps and my computer i guess crashed and took me to
a blue screen that said: Windows had been shut down
because of a problem. then yada yada yada and dumping
physical memory. So i yet again restarted. Went to
check disk before windows finished starting froze at
forty person with 2 beeps heard again. Restarted
computer went through check disk again froze at 30 person
no beeps. Restarted again and i canceled check disk and
it it stalled for a minute then started my desktop. What
would cause such bizare behavior. I have not changed my
computer in anyway to cause this well that i know of;
just my usualy browsing of the internet and chatting.

less then 10 minutes from initial post i hear two beeps
IE stalls then closes then i get a dialog box with
winlogon - system error (Title) System encountered hard
error(contents) or something like that and the triangle
with an exclamation point in the system tray. I clicked
ok display reverted to classic view and i had to press
the power button to restart

I left my computer off all night and when i started it
this morning i heard about a dozen consecutive beeps. It
froze at checkdisk again. It did that two or three more
times sometimes at the checkdisk before the loading of
the desktop and sometimes after it started up and on one
of those times it gave me a blue screen that windows has
shut down. Its finally letting me use it. Can someone
please tell me whats wrong with me computer.

I again ran into the problem after i posted. I opend up
my computer and tapped the IDE cable to my primary drive
and its working alright. could this probem have been
caused by a loose cable or is it over heating. because
it started working better since i left the cover off

Again no changes to hardware have been made.

You are having hardware failures. The beeps are error codes specific to
your motherboard. Problems could be overheating (my guess), bad RAM,
bad processor, bad hard drive. Start major hardware diagnosis. If you
can't do this (and I don't mean this rudely, just being realistic),
then you should take your computer to a good local repair shop (not a
CompUSA or Best Buy type store) and have them check it over thoroughly.
Do this right away so you don't cause more damage.
