Computer Freezes while using Internet Explorer

Richard

I have recently started having problems where my computer
freezes completely while using Internet Explorer.

I am running Windows 98 with Internet Explorer version
6.0.2800.1106IS.

Once the freeze happens the computer does not respond at
all, not evn even for Alt-Ctrl-Del.

I have had the computer system for some time (about 1
year) and this only started happening recently. I cannot
recall installing any relevant software upgrades recently
but am not certain of this.

It happens when I am visiting particular websites
particularly when scripting is involved e.g. one site
freezes when trying to use a search, another while
completing an onlince crossword.

Anyone got ideas what is wrong. If it helps I can post
the urls of the some sites with which I am having problems.

Check on this site as it will tell you what version you have and you should
be able to get what you need.

....only tick the JIT compiler box and leave the Java boxes un checked

when running Win 95 IE 5.5, else the browser window closes.
Same thing for IE 6, confirmed.

Scripting issues.
Microsoft's Scripting download
Get the latest. Two download versions are available for Windows Script 5.6.
The first version requires Windows 2000, XP; the second version requires
Microsoft Windows 98, Millenium Edition (Me), or NT 4.0. Choose the download
appropriate for your operating system.
