I am trying to re-install XP Home on my desktop and the computer always
freezes. It boots up from the CD, starts evaluating the hardware and then
starts loading some basic hardware drivers. It always freezes at this point.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks.

Hi Adit,

Is there a BIOS-based antivirus detection scheme? If so, you should disable
it. Also, why are you looking to do this, is there a problem you are trying
to get rid of? If the problem is hardware related, reinstalling is not going
to help.

The BIOS antivirus detection scheme is turned off already. I'm doing this to
get a legal version of XP on the machine, also the machine tends to hang very
often. There could be a glitch with the hardware but I decided to try and
load XP first since I had to get a legal status on the OS anyway. If the same
issues persist then I know it's a hardware issue. Appreciate your help Rick.
Thanks.

Hi Adit,

Make sure you strip it to bare essentials as well.
