Hi,
I run WinXP Pro with a Microsoft Wireless Elite Desktop keyboard and
mouse.
Recently, on boot up from cold (power cut off at wall point, when not in
use) at the screen where I am to enter the password, as soon as I press
the first key, the computer freezes. Pressing 'Reset' on the case
reboots, and all goes well thereafter, and for the whole session.
'Restarting' presents no problems. This happens nine times out of ten
boots. Very occasionally, it works correctly at the first attempt, but
surely fails at the next cold boot.
This fault did not exist when the Desktop was new 5 months ago. This
fault does not occur when I remove the Wireless Desktop and fit again my
'old' cabled keyboard and mouse.
I have tried all variants of battery replacement and relocation of the
receiver, to no avail. The indicators in the software show battery level
good and signal quality high.
I have posted this problem on the Hardware newsgroup, but with all due
respect, no definitive cause or cure has been suggested.
Please help.
Rex.
