computer does not recognize a usb flash drive

I have a 256 usb flash drive. computer is using windows xp.

two computer that I own recognize the drive and it appears under MY
COMPUTER listing immediately after the drive is installed in the usb
hub.

however, one of my computer does NOT recognize the drive. I presently
have partitions and drives A through V listed under MY COMPUTER.

Any suggestions as to the problem?

Does it show up as the SAME drive letter on both computers?

If it shows up on each of the above computers under the same drive letter is
may be trying to use the same drive letter on this computer which is taken
by one of your partitions.

I have seen where the USB drive wants to use a specific drive letter, say
"E". The computer you attach the USB drive already has a the drive letter
"E" in use pointing to a network drive. When attaching the USB drive it
appeared as if the "E" drive was still mapped to a network drive (no
removable drive shows up in explorer) but when I highlighted the "E" drive
it showed the contents of the USB drive.

You might test if this is what is happening with you.
