Computer disappear from the network browser

After having a system fail (DC w/Master role) and replacing the NIC card I now have inconsistent browseing of domain computers. I get 2 different views of the network, 1 with core servers and 1 with servers and pcs, but neither consistently.

I have tried browstat and other tools can someone give me another suggestion. Also I moved the domain master functions to another DC during the failure.

Thanks

Since you had a failure of your pdc fsmo it is possible that you have incorrect wins
entries and dns records for that server including _serve records that still refer to
it as the pdc. You should not transfer/seize fsmo roles from a dead dc unless you
never plan to bring it back online as conflicts may occur after you restore it. I
would run first netdiag and then dcdiag on your restored domain controller and the
one that you transferred the roles to looking for failed tests/errors/fatal warnings.
Check your wins database to see what servers are referred to as the domain master
browser and you may need to tombstone the wrong ones once you get things resolved.
The pdc fsmo is typically the domain master browser. The link below may be worth a
look about AD configuration problems/repair methods and you want to post in the
win2000.Active_directory newsgroup for advice on how to proceed if it seems you have
complications from restoring a dc after transferred the fsmo roles as indicated by
netdiag and dcdiag including having _srv records for the old pdc fsmo. --- Steve
