I had left my computer on and returned to find it off. I pressed the power
button and nothing happened?!?! I thought it must be the power supply or the
motherboard. I have replaced them both with the same brand and spec. I have
also changed the CPU but still nothing happens (the fans don't even start)
the LED on the motherboard is not lit up either. PLease can some one help as
i am not a computer expert and it is starting to drive me mad!!!

I have seen the following myself at one of my clients. Went there because the computer was dead and did not start. The first thing I did was change the power cord but it did not help. Then I realized that since no power is coming in as it seems we plugged the computer into another plug in another office. It worked. Apparently the AC plug and it's connection was defective. They called the electrician to come and fix it.

If you are getting power to the system, look for bad caps on the
motherboard. It's possible that nothing short of replacing the
motherboard will help.

Here's an old article on bad caps.

Is there a switch on the power supply? If so, try that.

I once saw a situation like this where the computer was plugged into a
switched outlet without realizing it. Someone threw the switch, so
there was no power at the outlet.

HeyBub

I once saw a situation like this where the computer was plugged into a
switched outlet without realizing it. Someone threw the switch, so
there was no power at the outlet.

Or the outlet could be downstream from a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit
Interrupter) plug. Or the circuit breaker for the outlet has flipped.

Whew! Glad you're back up and running. Had me perplexed. Hope you have a use
for the spare motherboard.

When another part of the power supply 'system' is the actual defect
- causing intermittents - computer may be operatng with a defective
power supply controller. A problem created by shotgunning - replacing
parts without first identifying a problem. Defective items may then
even appear working. Are both power supplies defective, or supplies
defective only in that computer? IOW odds are more likely that both
power supplies are not defective and the problem is still not
repaired.
