Computer Crashes after sound card drivers installed...

I just recently upgraded to Vista 32-bit from XP Pro. I had no sound so I
installed the drivers for the SoundBlaster Live. It said that it wasn't
compatible but I proceeded anyway. Now it crashes alot. Are there any sound
cards out there that are Vista compatible? Can sound card driver cause a PC
to crash?? Any input would be appreciated.

You installed sound card drivers even though you were warned that they
weren't compatible. Now your computer crashes. Then you ask if sound card
drivers can make a computer crash??? You have your answer.

I suggest you go to the web sites of the hardware manufacturers and see what
they have to offer for Vista. Google for "Vista soundcard". There are many
hits.

There's ony one way to find out.
Remove the driver, restart Vista and look if Vista stays stable but without
sound.
You can also let Vista check for drivers.

I think there are drivers in the making.

Creative isnt going to support the Live! cards in Vista.

So you have 2 choices. Get a new sound card, or there are a set of modded
drivers that do work with the Live! cards. I am in the same boat, with a SB
Live! Gamer card.

Here is the info from the modded drivers read me.....

The inconsistency of support for hardware is one thing that'll drive
current PC owners away from Vista - and perhaps Windows altogether.

Why should one have to spend MORE money when the existing hardware is
MORE than adequate to provide sound services???

I can see if you were going from a 32-bit to 64-bit OS, but can you
really justify the costs going from XP 32-bit to Vista 32-bit???

Again, I'll wait 3-5 years before most of the usability bugs are squashed.

So with that logic, transfer over your 401(k) if you have it, because I am
planning to be here 3-5 years from now.

I said I was PLANNING to be here 5 years from now, but who knows... My
ex-wife could go ballistic and stab me with a kitchen knife. That's why I
sleep with my kevlar vest on at night.

Wait as long as you want. Creative still is not going to support what they
say the have archived. They (Creative) wants you to buy a new sound card -
hopefully from them.

I have the Audigy 4, its a great sound card. It has both vista 32-bit and
64-bit drivers available.
