Is there any kind of device one can purchase that would assist in the cooling
of a computer. I ask because i have a problem with my computer overheating
and i read on here sometime last year that such a product may be available
somewhere?

You can install additional cae fans, but first make sure that existing fans
are working properly, and that the case is not filled with dust bunnies.

There are a lot of devices on the market to cool computers. But you did not say if you have a
desktop computer or a laptop computer.

Desktop computers can be helped by internal fans, and there are even special fans that cool the hard
drive and other parts.
Laptop computers can be helped with cooling frames you set the computer on.

Give us more details and you will get lots of advice, some of which may even be helpful. (grin)

Yeah sorry, my computer is a Laptop. I have no dust in my fans as it was
re-assembled by an expert after cleaning a couple of days ago. Placing my
Laptop on a cooling frame sounds ideal. Any further info would be ace. Ta.

Oh dear! You should never let an expert touch your computer!

Cheers,

Your laptop should be used on a table or other flat hard surface so that
there is an air flow beneath it. If you have a later version BIOS you should
be able to enter the CMOS setup (DEL, F2, F10, etc. depends on make) and
check the "PC Health" menu item. If available this feature will show your
CPU fan speed, CPU temp, and inner case temp.

Some BIOS also have a fail-safe shutdown if the CPU temp exceeds the preset
maximum. I have run systems from 95F to 120F with no ill effects. If your
CPU is overclocked, know that it is a chancy tweak that causes overheating
and shortens the CPU life. Most chip makers advise against it.
