Computer Clock

My computer has been off since last summer. When I
plugged it in and turned it on, I found that the clock
had stopped on 12/31/2003. I have tried putting in a new
battery to no avail.
I have reset it from every door. It runs for a few
minutes after I reset it and then stops or loses time. It
stops completely when the computer is off. Sometimes the
date stays, others not.
Any suggestions? Would reinstalling XP help?
Thank you, CSS

The clock is a function of the motherboard - XP does nothing but read the
info from the clock chip.

Try another new battery, thengo into your systems bios
(motherboard)My H/P you access it by repeatedly pumping
the F1 key at start-up my dell is by pumping the F2
key,some others i've worked on F8 , F9 ,you get the
picture.Make sure you get the bios(basic input/output
services).Try F1 first(unless you have a dell)If the bios
screen pops up arrow down to the time(you chenge it by
the keypad + and - then tab button to the minutes same
thing,+ - .the box on the right will explain
everything. When done arrow right to the last tab, beleive
it's F10 to exit and save changes then enter, will let it
boot into windows. You may have spyware on you computer
changing that, things like weatherbug are good for that,I
get and run Ad-Aware(it's free)from this site
http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtml
or you can get it from
http://www.download.com type in adaware in the
search box, download it,open it up,check for updates and
run it(takes about 20 minutes or so)remove the sptware
that comes up.Spyware from different countries other time
zone change your clock for you.You don't even know it's
happening.
