Computer Browser Service will not start

I go into services to manually start my computer browser
service and it will not start. I have 4 computers
networked together using phoneline adapters. The network
is still working but I can not browse. I noticed the
coputer browser was not started so I tyried to start it
manually. I keep getting a message that it tried to start
but stopped. It is set on automatic but will not start. I
believe this is why I can not brose my network. How can I
get the service to respond? have disabled the SP2
security system and tried to uninstall that horrible
upgrade but to no avail. I wish MS woould have given me
the option to install SP2 because ever since I installed
it I have major problems. Oigh.
Please help

The browser service won't start unless you enable the
File and Print Sharing exception on the Windows Firewall.

I have the same problem. File & Print sharing is enabled but the computer
browser service still stops soon after it starts. All dependent services are
running. Any idea how to resolve this?

For clarity's sake, there are two different settings required to enable File
& Printer sharing.

The first is on the properties of the NIC you need to enable the "File and
Printer Shareing for Microsoft Networks" service.
The second is on the NIC's advanced tab, under Firewall > Settings >
Exceptions the service "File and Printer Sharing" should have a tick.

If you've done both these things, and you're still getting problems with the
browser service starting, check the event logs for more info and first do
some reasearch for any errors (event ID & Source) using Google and
www.eventid.net. Then post any error messages and what you've learned back
to the groups.

HTH,
