Computer and WinXP not running good!

Ok, I have an AMD Athlon XP, 2.00 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM and
ATi Radeon 9800 XT computer. Now back when I used Windows
2000, 98, 95 and what not, it ran real good. But ever
since I instaled Windows XP, it's been running slow. My
parents have a computer that uses Windows XP, and very
weak computer specs, and runs faster than mines. I tried
defragmenting, anti-spy ware software and virus scans.
Didn't help much. Large quality video files run slow,
games run slow and what not the first time I use them. It
takes over five seconds to open a foldier. I can't play a
MP3 and view stuff on the net and my computer with out it
slowing down big time. Some one please help!

That computer should run very well. Sounds like you've
tried most of the bsic fixes. How about a "repair" re-
install... or, what's to lose, so maybe a full reinstall
of Windows XP?

What programs do you have automatically starting with Windows? Go
to Start | Run and type MSCONFIG, then look on its Startup tab to
see.

I've got the same series of circumstances. heard that the problem lies with Windows XP SP1. Did you upgrade to Sp1? and if yes did you notice a difference before & after?

If you upgraded to Windows XP and didn't do a clean install (format and then
install), I'd suggest doing that now. Also check the ATI site and see if
there are newer Windows XP compatible drivers for your display adapter, and
if there are, update the one's that you are using.
