compressing multiple pictures

for my web picture gallery I have to compress / resize many (hundreds) of
pictures.
I use to do it one by one in microsoft picture manager.
is there a way to apply it simultaneously on many pictures

I use Paint Shop Pro for batch Processing of images.
From 1 to 1,000 only takes a few seconds.
