Just import the AVI file into MovieMaker (File...Import into Collections
from the menu). When you select the video file to import into MovieMaker you
may want to turn off the "Create clips for video files" option at the bottom
of the dialog if you know you don't want to do any editing. The file will
then import quicker and you'll just have one clip for the file which will be
easier to drag down to the storyboard / timeline.
Once you've got the clip on the storyboard / timeline, select File...Save
Movie File from the menu and choose the relevant options.
See Saving Movies...Introduction on PapaJohn's web site for more information
on the options available

How do i compress my video? making the AVI smaller so i can send it to
Just save the movie as an EMail file -- I typically get a
90% "compression" compared to saving as a 720x480-1.7Mbps
movie, specifically, for a 40 second clip:
Imported 40-second VHS clip size: 200MB
Movie saved as 640x480-2.1Mbps size: 12MB
Movie saved as 720x480-1.7Mbps size: 10MB
Movie saved as an EMail file size: 1MB
The compromise is that maximum viewing area of the EMail
type file is something like 2"x3", but you certainly
reduce the risk of filling up the EMail Boxes of all of
your friends.
Notch the maximum email file size up to 4 or 5 MB, and then save the movie
to your email.... and it'll make one that's appropriate in size and
quality... as long as you and the received can handle that size, and the
receiver has a fairly current version of the Windows Media Player.

Broadband 1500 kbps and it still 32mb (bit too big) especially if i want to
send to friends. I have tried some video compression softwares but they do
not recognise the video file.
