Compressed (zipped) folders password error

After I compress a folder, then select it to add a password, the process will
start, then stops and I get a "cannot create an output file" error. Any ideas
on a solution for this?

Is this with the XP zip function or with a 3rd party zip program?

Thanks for your reponse. It is with the XP zip function.
I am on a IBM T-30 orginally loaded with Win XP and has been updated so I
think it is current. Thanks.
