Compress drive option

I am runningn low of space on 1 of my HDs and can't get another yet.
Are there any problems with clicking the "compress drive" option with
W2k?

i did that to my NT4 machine and it worked fine
what it did was simply compress many of the files
rather than create a compressed volume (as would be done with win9x fat16)

Are these all compressed individually or into one compressed file? One
problem with one whole compressed file is that one hd error can cause
you to lose all your progs and data.

It won't do didly if the files are already compressed: MP3, AVI, MPG
etc.

it compressed the files individually...
it did *not* make a compressed volume as in win9x...
so my feeling is that it's safer than the win9x compression
