So you tested Windows Mail while all those other apps were
uninstalled, yet there was no improvement? Sorry to hear that.

Instead of restoring your computer to factory condition, I suggest
trying Windows Live Mail. Most people who have tried it agree
that it is better than Windows Mail.

I have uninstalled everything, reinstalled everything...and did what you
suggested I do. I still have the same problem no matter which way I try to
install things or uninstall things. I'm at a loss as to what to try next,
other than resetting my computer to factory...and I would really prefer not
to do that...

Microsoft won't fix something that is essentially caused by a
third party program. I have seen very few complaints about
that update.

Blocking an update can only be considered a very short term
fix. Future additional updates may well depend upon the presence
of the KB942615 update.

I outlined a structured way for you to find out which app is
causing the problem. I don't understand why you are not
interested in finding the culprit.

I've decided to just ignore that update. Nothing I've tried is working, so
if I don't install the update I won't have the problem! I just hope
Microsoft comes out with another update to fix it.

I did actually uninstall the 4 updates that this all seemed to start with,
and installed them one at a time to see which one was affecting my
computer.
It turned out to be the one that I posted here. As soon as I installed it
my
font in IE would change, as well as my font to compose messages in Windows
Mail. I was able to change the IE font back to what I wanted, but not the
Windows Mail font. I do have Ad-aware Ad Watch, but I hadn't run it
yesterday at all, and it's not set to run in the background or anything
like
that.


Turn off your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and uninstall KB942615.
Then reinstall it and then turn them back on.

Good luck. I hope that works out for you.
If it doesn't, there is one other step you can take before restoring
to the factory condition. It's called a repair-install of Vista. They say
it leaves your data files intact. I haven't used it, so I can't vouch for it:
