Complex Password Policy

Joe

I want to enable the complex password option in my group policy for
passwords. Can anyone tell me how this change will impact the users in the
short term? Will everyone be forced to change their password immediately if
it is not complex, or will it wait until the next password change interval?
How does Windows explain to the user the password requirement? (Is there a
good example if they fail in their first attempt to set thee password?)

Thanks!

They will be required to use the complex password policy the next time they
are required to change their password. Windows will tell the user what the
password requirements require.

Danny is right. Once the Password Policy is changed, it will hit the
users the next time they need to change their passwords. Current
passwords remain valid.

Note that if you change the maximum password age from 180 days to let's
say 90 days, users with passwords that are older than 90 days will
instantly get prompted to choose a new password. Their passwords expire
right away.

cheers,
