Completely disable DEP?

Is there anyway to completely turn off DEP on Windows? It just started
causing trouble for me today. My first guess was a virus, but I don't have
one. It shuts things down repeatedly, because I think whatever it shuts down
just restarts again ( like "Windows Logon UI" for example). When I go into
Control Panel> System > Advanced> Performance> DEP, I don't have an option to
turn it on for critical systems only. I can only run it for everything, or
everything with the exception of programs I list (Oddly, that list has all
the programs on it that just randomly started crashing). Is there anyway to
shut it off completely? Or at least get the option back so I can limit it to
critical processes?

A detailed description of the Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
feature in Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Tablet
PC Edition 2005, and Windows Server 2003

Hope this helps.

When DEP suddenly starts programs crashing it is a sure sign that something
has changed. Turning it off may fix the symptom but it won't cure the
disease. What was the last program you installed? What was the last hardware
you changed? In other words what did you change recently?

I'm pretty sure I know what it is. It started acting up when I installed a
beta version of BitTorrent, because I do some beta testing for them. It's
alright, I'm keeping my eyes open. Thanks everyone for the help.

I'm having a similar issue to this one. I turned my computer on today and
DEP keeps shutting down "Windows Logon UI". As soon as I close the message,
the same message pops up again.

I can't think of anything that I've recently done or downloaded to my
computer. My card reader has been acting up lately?

Any help? I can't get the DEP message to go away. It sits on top of all
the other windows which is doubly annoying.

Thanks

I'm also having a similar problem but it closes internet explorer. I have
intalled a new tool bar but I'm not sure thats the problem. I've scanned it a
few times but if its whats crashing the internet I'll delete it.

If you disable DEP, you are shooting the messenger. Executing data, which
is what DEP prevents, is one way to inject malware onto your system.
