Complete Uninstall Media Player All Versions and Reinstall?

Hi:

Does anyone know how to completely remove all versions of Media Player and
reinstall Media Player 11. I think a lot of the problems are carried forward
from former versions when you unistall version 11 and it rolls back to
version 10 etc.

I would like to completely remove ALL versions and start a new with Media
Player 11. I had no problems whatsoever with Player 11, until I reformatted
and now I have a lot as descibed in various postings, i.e. Library, Ablum
Art, Plugins etc.

Thanks,

Col Tom

For uninstalling WMP 11 it is not enough to just uninstall it at add/
remove. There are two other programs that also must be uninstalled in
a certain sequence, the computer must be rebooted at least 2 times,
etc. To see the details, go to
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/wi...aspx#RollingbacktoapreviousversionofthePlayer
. Note the sentences:"Windows Media Player is a feature of the
Windows operating system and cannot be removed entirely. However, in
Windows XP, you can roll back to the version of the Player that was
previously on your computer." If there is any way to remove all of
WMP, Microsoft is not going to tell you how. The hackers might have
found a way, but I do not keep up with hacker sites.

Also there are several issues with WMP 11. For a listing of these
issues and how to overcome them, when possible, see
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx .

ColTom2: I'd simply recommend installing WMP 11 again, on top of itself.
A reinstall often "fixes" weird issues. Give it a try before getting
too drastic.

Why can't you? Even if you deleted the WMP11 rollback-to-previous-version
folder, if you directly contact actual product support, even then they can
help you rebuild that folder.

But picture DVD playback isn't really a major factor of WMP, so you may be
barking up the wrong tree here.

What do you think this would solve?

Generally this isn't going to be possible in any meaningful fashion, and
isn't even interesting, since so much of what WMP does is going to be
interfered with by third party codecs, filters, drivers, etc etc, that a
"completely clean" install of Media Player is an utterly meaningless idea.

At that point, you really get into needing to reinstall the OS clean.
