Complete System Restore

Good evening all. I have just had to completely restore my wifes computer to
like new status. I am having problems with this. I used the restore parttion
on the computer and ran the "Destructive System Restore". When it started
restoring everything, some files said they could not be restored. They were
random items, but when the system rebooted and ran through the setup process,
the mouse happened to be one of the things that didnt restore. I tabbed
through everything and answered al questions... computer rebooted. I
unplugged mouse, plugged it back in, and computer recognized it as new
hardware... ran through the isntall of new hardware... didnt find anything. I
am affraid other things that are needed may not have been restored. I have a
setup disk... Ran that the other day... "NON-destructive restore"... but had
same problems of not installing all files. How can I get this issue
corrected? Can and will MS replace the OS if I gaive them the product numbers
and everything else from the product ID tag? The computer and OS is
registered to me, as i always register my my new computers with MS. Anyone
have any other ideas. They would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Unfortunately - your OS support (as you have an OEM copy) comes direct from
the computer manufacturer.
You need to contact them.

Just wanted to let you know that some 'recovery' partitions do not
include the custom drivers. So for example if you were running a
laptop, it might not recognize your touchpad or install it as a
generic PS/2 mouse. In my case, my zd8205us came with a Windows
disk, but also came with a driver DVD which of course I lost.
fortunately a copy of the DVD had been on the original install which
of course I had a backup of. I ran the driver directory, and
everything on my laptop suddenly worked perfectly.

If it is a driver issue, I would go to the manufacturers site and
see if there are drivers to download.

The other thing I would suggest, is after you get the system set up
the way you want it, use a program like Ghost to make a mirror of
the drive to an external USB drive. (I actually make to images every
Saturday).

Ciao . . . C.Joseph

And on the seventh day God said,
"I will rest . . . Murphy take over."
