Complete reinstallation of drivers?

My XP seems to have problems with the drivers for the CD-ROM and the CD-RW.
Reinstalling them doesn't seem to help (Error code 39) - missing or damaged
drivers.
Installation diskette for CD-RW doesn't help either.
Any suggestions on this?

Hi,

It seems that you have not fixed the cables properly on
the mother board. Remove them and fix it back and try to
see if the drivers now get installed. if not then the Cd
must be corrupted. Consult the vendor of the CD-RW for a
replacement of the drivers disk.
