Complete PC Restore

Hello,

I did a complete PC Backup. Windows suggested my E: partition for it (Windows is
on C, so that's where I put it. Now I want to do a complete PC Restore from
that backup. How do I do it? I've tried pressing F8 during startup to get to it,
but I just get the usual menu (Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking etc.),
albeit with more options now under Vista. There is nothing about System Recovery
or PC Restore.

Well, I haven't come across anywhere within Vista where you can do it. It should
be possible from there though, since you might lose the installation disc, or
from the F8 boot menu.

I can't do it from there. That's where it says:
"To restore your computer, you need to run Windows Complete PC Restore from the
System Recovery Options menu. You can access the recovery options menu from a
recovery partition using the F8 key at startup, or from a Windows installation
disc." But F8 does not help. I had misunderstood the installation disc as a disc
containing a backup, so I hadn't tried that.

Hmm . . . you're perfectly correct. I see that now, and thanks for
pointing it out. I've restored quite a number of times now, but always
via the installation DVD. I gather that, using the F8 route, one needs
to boot into safe mode and then somehow access the repair options from
there . . . ?

I haven't tried safe mode (I'm accustomed to that _removing_ features, never
adding anything), but next time I do a restore I'll check it out.

Man, I just went back to the help info that I got that safe mode
business from and could no longer find any reference to safe mode at
all. Sorry, but I must have hallucinated it.
At least the installation DVD method works for both of us . . . thank
goodness.
