and I don't know much about computers. I have a hitachi Visionbook plus,

directly?????
Your laptop doesn't come close to meeting Win2K's minimum
requirements, on respect to the amount of RAM, and the CPU speed and
Hard drive capacity are at the low end of the scale. You badly need to
replace the hard drive, CPU, and increase the RAM to at least 128 Mb,
but preferably to 256 Mb. The absolute minimum requirements are:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/server/evaluation/sysreqs/default.asp
Before proceeding, though, you'd better take a few minutes to
ensure that there are Win2K device drivers available for your computer's
specific components. There may not be, if the PC was specifically
designed for Win95. Have you made sure the PC is capable of supporting
Win2K? This information will be found at the PC's manufacturer's web
site, and on Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility List
(
http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp). Also bear in mind that
computers designed for, and sold with, Win95 very often fail to meet
Win2K's much more stringent hardware quality requirements.
My interest is only in surfing the net and nothing else really and I just
got a new dsl line but they told me win 95 doesn't work, oh and I forgot, a
friend gave me a linksysy wireless card and it doens't work on 95.
Can someone offer some direction, I hope I don't have to spend 3K on a new
laptop.
Well, you certainly don't have to spend $3000.00 on a new laptop, as
you can a very nice one for less than half that price. Some of the
larger OEMs, such as Dell and Gateway, even have a few decent models
that come in at under $1000.00, if your computer needs aren't particular
"robust." For your stated needs, many of these should do quite nicely.
