Compatibility files

There is a command button on the toolbar of the Documents folder that says
"Compatibility Files". Does anyone know what are they and why nothing is
mentioned about them in the Vista documentation? (at least not when searching
on "Compatibilty Files").

I ask because a program I was running created a folder and some files that I
wasn't able to see in the Documents folder (or from a command prompt) until I
clicked the Compatibilty Files button (by accident, really). The program was
a 32-bit Java program, and there were no compatibility issues I was aware of.
My file options were set to see hidden and system files, so I couldn't
understand why the files weren't appearing. Clicking on this button showed
the folders and files the Java program created, and a few other files I was
able to view before (however they showed different modification dates). I
wasn't able to see most of the other files and folders in the directory in
this Compatibility Files "view," however. What happened?

Me too. I get e-mailed pictures, they go into a folder and "poof", they're
gone until I click on that compatibility files thing. Can't copy them
anywhere either.
Please - need an answer.
