Vista and Compatibility Files -Huh

Anyone got the time to explain what the heck Vista "compatibility files"
are all about?
In my case I installed a older piece of software (maybe a couple of years
old) on my laptop runnibg Vista Basic Home, the program installed and runs
ok, but when I went take a look in the program's folder , there were files
that should have been that are not listed, then I noticed listed on the
menu where Organize, Views, Burn options are located another option called
Compatibility Files, so being the seek and ye shall find kind of guy I
clicked on the "compatibility files" folder and there were the missing
files...so Huh?

TIA

when a poorly written program is trying to write application data files in
c:\program files, UAC's file redirection will redirect these writes in your
user private appdata folder.

Hmmm...poorly written...I gues that could be subject to some aggreement
and some disaggreement.
Now having said that , the program in question is Eudora 7.1 and yes I
know it's no longer available as it is now part of an open source
developement, but I prefer to continue to use as I have used Eudora for
yeras and updated it as the new versions appeared.
Is there no way that the so called "compatabilty files" could be listed
in with the rest of the Eudora files without having to be listed
separately?
Thanks for the reply.

I don't think Vista likes for application data files to be written to the
C:\Program files folder or any of its sub-folders.

You got it, I just uninstalled it and re-installed it outside the Program
Files folder...everything shows up where it is supposed to and it seems
to run ok.
Why the hell does MS take it on them selves to change things like this.
I suppose they will say it's just for my own good.(G)
Oh well, another mystery solved, thanks for your input , much
appreciated.
