I'm trying to sync my PDA with my laptop (Vista os). When trying to select
contacts,calender,e-mail,tasks and notes for syncing I get a small window
appearing telling me that 'outlook has not been installed'.Does this mean
that windows mail is incompatible with mobile device centre? Am I able to
download outlook express onto vista to make it work? What do I need to do to
get my PDA fully working with my laptop? All help offered will be very much
appreciated.

Neither OE or WM will sync mail with mobile.
You need Outlook installed, as the error says.

Five years ago when I bought a PDA it came with a CD that had
a copy of Microsoft Outlook. Unfortunately, Outlook versions
older than '2003' don't work well on Vista.

Your PDA came with Outlook? Mine came with a software package that sync'ed
with Outlook. It was called "Intellisync Lite", synchronized Palm
applications with Outlook or Lotus Organizer, and came with my Clié
PEG-TJ35. I believe I tried it with Outlook 2003 recently and it worked
great. I could even get events from the Clié to my Windows Live Calendar.
