Comparison between Canon i960 and HP7960

I wanted to find the best photo printer for heavy duty photo printing
of 4x6 and 8x 11's, so I bought both at the same time. The price
difference was about $50 or $63 Canadian.

One is a 6 ink and the other is an 8 ink so I don't know if this is a
fair comparision. The HP 7760 may be more of a fair comparison?

I bought both of these and here's what I found out :

HP print conclusions:

The HP print had a slight white border on the top.

The HP print is slightly more detailed but that is important as
features are better defined.

The HP cropped off less of the photo on the borderless setting.

The picture was slightly darker than the Canon's and the brown colour
was darker.

HP has a hard time processing 4x6 prints from it's tray. My 4 x 6
sheets were curled and it did not like this at all and ate 2 sheets.

HP customer support was great though as I talked to someone about this
problem.

Canon:

Prints faster in color quite noticably.

Pics are slightly more orangy than HP. I hate this as I spent hours
tweeaking the picture. The HP produces flesh tones closer to the
original though both did not match perfectly.

The machine vibrates less and is less bulky looking. It has an easier
4 x 6 loader.

Seems to use less ink as I only had to replace the photo magenta as a
tons of prints.

4x6 pics were slightly fuzzier on low res prints.

======
Conclusion:

There's pros and cons on both, but with the small price difference I
might go with the HP though I should test out the 7760.

Anyone compared the HP7760 to the HP 7960 or Canon i960?

Are you going to inject inks? If you are, go with the Canon. If you don't
care about ink costs, get the HP. The i960 produces prints that are
indistinguishable from photo prints from a developer, provided that the
correct paper is used (Ilford or Canon Pro.) I don't know much about HP, but
from what I've seen, it's basically the same quality as Canon.

The gray hpoto ink makes a noticable difference in the prints, so IMO
the HP is better. The Canon simply has a problem with the flesh tones.

Anyone compared the HP7760 to the HP 7960 or Canon i960?

Got 'em running side by side hooked to a laptop for on-
site digital photo printing (along with a dye-sub jobber
that does 4x6).

6 of one, half dozen of the other.

I use the HP for 4x6 and 5x7, and the Canon for 8x10 and
8.5x11.

The Canon is MUCH faster, but the HP can hold a trayfull
of BOTH 4x6 and 5x7, and the prints are GORGEOUS.

Calibrate your monitor, and use the right paper...your
color differences will go away

I don't know as I scanned one photo and then printed it out on both
machines. Both do do replicate flesh tones 100 precent but then both
are not equivalent to $10,000 photo lab machinese either.

The photos are still acceptable on both but the HP has truer flesh
tones without adjustments. On teh Canon, I could never get it close to
the orginal as much as the HP.

My monitor is ok and I used the same recommended paper on both so that
is not the problem, but thanks anyway.
