Compacting files in Outlook Express

Jeff Malka

I hope this is not off topic, but I am asking because I noticed other
questions about OE.

I've always been confused about the difference between the 2 types of
compacting available in Outlook Express. They are:

1. File/Folder/Compact all Folders
2. Tools/Options/Maintenance/Cleanup Now/Compact

What does each do (difference)?
Which should be done before the other?
Does it make any difference?
Why did MS put them so far apart!?

Thanks.

Jeff.
I have been told by the MVP's that the File/Folder/Compact all Folders
does a better job... Not sure why, but that is what was passed on on another
group.

#1 is known as running a manual compact:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm#compact. #2 basically
does the same thing. You should first "File>Work offline" before running
either.
