I'm running ACCESS 2007 in a Windows XP Home Edition environment. I got the
following error message when opening an ACCESS 2007 (.accdb) database:
"Microsoft Office can't delete Club.accdb after compacting it. The
compacted database has been named Database.mdb." There are more messages in
the dialog box, but this is the gist of my problem.
I could not find the file Database.mdb. My original file (Club.accdb) was
deleted. Fortunately I had a backup of the original file. This has happened
more than once with different ACCESS 2007 files.
What is puzzling to me is that a compacting operation is executed by ACCESS
2007 upon opening a file. Additionally, why would the compacted database be
assigned an .mdb file extension? Like I say, this has happened more than
once.
Any thoughts on what is happening here?
