compact messages in inbox disappeared

When I compacted my messaged in my inbox all the messages for several months
were deleted. I tried restoring from the recyle bin but that did not work.
How do I recover those emails?

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook

Express is actually a separate program despite the similar name.
