Compact card reader failing to work with XP

Usually, whenever I insert a card in my Universal Card Reader, I get a
dialogue box appearing on the desktop. Despite trying to get this to work
via the Autoplay feature, the dialogue box continues to appear.

Other than using the Autoplay feature, is there anything else I could try?
For now, it works fine on my laptop and it's making me wonder why it is not
working on my desktop PC. In particular since I only had my system reloaded.

PS. The only way I can view my images is to go into My Pictures for example
and view them from there.

It would help is you would post the exact "dialog" message.
