Comp shuts down after connecting to the internet by a dialup connection

When using a dialup connection to the Internet the
following error appears:
NT/Authority System
RPC service terminated unexpectedly.

Then unit will shut down automatically after thirty
seconds.

Sounds a little like the Blaster Worm. Do you have an Antivirus with the
latest Signatures installed? Did you install the RPC patch from the Windows
Update site? you may be able to perform a
dir *blaster* /s

to find the blaster exe.

Dusty, you are absolutely right, it is the Blaster
virus...that's what happended to me a couple of weeks ago
with 3 of my machines, the exact same error message, went
to the Symantec website and downloaded all the virus info,
and the removal tool and it worked perfectly, and have not
had any trouble since....hope this info helps....
