What happened to the Non "Net Passport" community posting site I used to
access from the microsoft help and support page? Is this outlook express
option the only way in now?
 
In my opinion, Outlook Express is a far better interface to the newsgroups
than Microsoft's web interface (and there are other newsreaders, such as
Forte Agent, that others recommend over OE), but they all interact with the
same posts.

Is your objection that Microsoft now obliges you to use Passport to use
their web interface? I believe that was done in an attempt to control Spam.
It's also necessary to support some of the new features added to the
interface.
