We have a small office (4 people) and only need one calander that everyone
can view/set meetings/tasks etc...instead of viewing everyone's "personal"
calanders sidexside. Is this possible? And if so - will/can the tasks etc.
be linked to the appropriate public contacts?

-Thanks

What type of mail server do you have? What version of Outlook?

Some tools are listed here:

You could also share an msn/hotmail calendar or use one of several online
calendars.

That makes it easier - use public folders and create a public folder
calendar folder or create a SharePoint calendar in your company web.
However, the SharePoint calendar is harder to add appointments to in this
version - it will sync with Outlook but outlook doesn't sync with it, so
you need to make the appointment using the web interface. Note that
reminders only fire if they are in the personal calendar in the mailbox -
slovaktech.com has a utility to overcome this problem.

Not sure exactly what you mean by task linking, so I can't say for sure.

Thank you!- Regarding the task linking, after the tasks/appointment that are
scheduled on the calander has been completed - will they be added/linked to
their appropriate contact file under activities or notes?

If the folder is enabled for Activities.

Right click on Contacts folder and choose properties, then Activities.
Create a new folder group and add the public folders to it.
