Common XPe Issues

Hey all,

I am looking for some links related to common XPe issues. Specifically
in the following areas:

- Networking (TCP/IP over windows network)
- Virtual Memory problems
- HAL problems related to P3 and P4 HT class processors
- Common 3rd Party "do not install" software packages (ie. mcafee
doesn't do well on a XPe system due to XXXXXXXXX)
- Performance, common bottle-necks found in XPe
- Anything else that you think would help

Overall the main reason that I seek this information is that a group of
us are supporting a 3rd party app on XPe systems within a retail
environment. The hardware and software platforms where not something
that we had input on, but are forced to support non the less. We have
alot of experience with the Win9X, NT, 2000, and XP environments, but
as I understand it, XPe is similar to XP generally with a few changes.

Any information anyone could volunteer would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi,

For most of your questions use google groups to search this NG for already
asked and answered questions.
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.embedded
as I understand it, XPe is similar to XP generally with a few changes.

No changes they use same binaries. But XPe has aditional (EEF) components
that XPP do not have. (EWF, DUA, ...)
Unfortunately even if you add all components there are files and/or registry
entries not covered by XPe compoents and you won't have 100% like XPe image,
so in some cases you must watch out for these problems.

If you use EWF on your system partition watch out for pagefile location and
daylightsaving problems.

Also read about embedded license to see if it fit in your requirements. XPe
can't be used as general purpose OS. (Office, and similar things are not
allowed)

Regards,
Slobodan
