"Common" folder opens on startup

Whenever I start up W2K, the folder C:\Programfiles\common
opens up. It's only aminor annoyance, but I sure woudl
like to learn how safely to get rid of it. Thanks.
 
One possibility is there is a shortcut in the "Startup" folder. Go to
Start, Programs, Startup. Select and delete the shortcut

You do not say which OS you are using, but I will assume W2K or XP. Sometimes the local profile may cache open folders and your desktop will return as you left it

I assume you have tried closing the offending folder and logging off to refresh the profile. So other things to try are..

1) Look in START / PROGRAMS / STARTUP to see if there is a shortcut to this folder there
2) Run REGEDIT and look in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" for the same
3) As a last resort Log on as Administrator browse to the Documents & Settings folder and delete your profile

WARNING: It is possible that deleting the profile will remove all your documents, settings, favourites etc MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP BEFOREHAND.
