Common File Pops Up - How to get rid of it?

every time i sign on or reboot, a file automatically opens called "Common".
It appears to be an empty file. under details it just says Common File. I
close it and my computer seems to be working fine. Is this a virus? How do I
get rid of it? Thanks!

what kind of file? suffix?
open in what? word, excel , notepad?
look in two places
registry for the Run key and see what is unusual there and
c:\documents and settings\all users\startue menu\programs\startup
good luck

"Common Files" folder launches automatically at startup?

Download Startup Tracker application from this page:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_starttrack.htm

Launch the program, and click the "View log" button. Post the contents of
the log file here.
