Malicious adware "System Security" How do I get rid of it?

J

Somehow, in the last couple days we've ended up with something that pops up
every few minutes trying to "warn" us of problems with our system. It's put
a shortcut on both our desktop and the task bar. The icon is shaped like a
shield and is black and yellow stiped. While I can 'find' it in my "All
Users - Application Data" there seems to be no way to get rid of it. Can
anyone give me a way to get rid of it / unitstall it without completely
reformating? It does not appear as one of the installed programs if I go to
"Add/Remove programs"

Look for and install SuperAntiSypware

Try scanning your System with these 2 Programs:

http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from
Download.com, or Major Geeks.com

Download, install, and update.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D
while in Safe Mode.

For the real truth, download Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, do a google
search for MBAM download, you can read about the product and then
download and run as needed.

The product has remove your specific malware from 99% of the machines
I've seen infected, and MBAM is from a reputable site run by good people
that the entire security community trusts.

Use my Remove-it software, it will remove that malware from your system.
Choose yes for all options when prompted. Download it here [link to
malware redacted]

.... and have more problems than you started with.

I have the same problem and have downloaded and tried to install MBAM
but Setup won't run - in normal or safe mode. It prompts me for the
preferred language and then momentarily shows the install box but
closes immediately, so I can't install MBAM.

Any more suggestions to get rid of System Security - it seems to not
let any other exes run either. Are there registry entries that I can
delete to stop it from running and therefore install the Malware sw?
indeed, is it "System Security" that is stopping the exes from
running?

Thanks for any help...

Hi all,

Have followed the advice for installing MBAM as I am experiencing the
same problems. I can't install the software though - I run the setup
file and get the prompt to choose the language and then the next
install box appears for a split second and then it all stops. This
happens in safe mode too so I can't get the sw installed to run the
scan etc...

Anyone any ideas how to get round this? is it "System Security" that
is stopping the exe running (as this is happening with all exes not
just eh MBAM install file)

Thanks for any help...
