Comming off standby question

I have cable service. When I return the computer from standby mode, I have
lost the connection with the server. {Data light stops flashing on Toshiba
modem}. I have to close IE & OE and reopen. That's not so bad, but many
times that doesn't work and I have to reboot. Is this common?

No, although I have to say that Windows computers often have trouble
"remembering" things when they come out of Standby and I always disable
that mode. Try disabling Standby for a few days and see if the problem
goes away. If it does, then you know how to fix things. If it
continues, call your ISP and have them replace your cable modem. They
do go bad sometimes.
