What mail format? If it's in the plain text format, just click on the
place you want to add the comment and start typing. If it's in the
HTML format, I don't know of a way to do it that will make it
clear what's from you instead of quoted from the original message.

You can't have it both ways.
HTML makes it very difficult to insert comments in the middle of a
quoted message. You will need to switch to plain text format.
