Comment balloons invisible

Guest

Hi,

I'm trying to add comments to a word document. When I add a comment I can
see it in the review pane but no balloon appears.

In the review toolbar my setting is "Original showing markup". On the show
menu all options from Original down to Formatting are ticked. Under Reviewers
my name is ticked, as is "All reviewers". If I get down to the option
Balloons, however, all the sub-options are greyed out.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Karl

In which version of Word was this document originally created?

Do you have Word 2002 or 2003?

I can't figure out how to enable them. If I go to the menu Show and go the
entry Balloons I find all the options (Always, Never, Only for
Comments/Formatting) greyed out.

If I hover my mouse over a comment mark in the text, a small balloon pops up
with my comment. What I want, though, is the red circled comment balloons
that sit at the margin of the page and have a red line pointing to them.

Any help much appreciated.

If you start Word in Office Safe Mode (press and hold Ctrl while the app is
loading), do you experience the same problems?
