Combo reads won't write

I have a MSI X52P Combo Drive which has been working
perfectly ok.

It still reads everything alright, but it will not write
to CD-R's or CD-RW's.

I have tried several CD-Rs and even swopped out the MSI
drive for an old plexwriter rewriter I have, still the
same problem.

I have tried slowing the write speeds alot - nothing!

I have installed XP SP2.

If anyone has any suggestions i would be very heppy and
greatful.

After all day getting nowhere, I installed nero, and it
worked!

But why does window XP not work? any ideas?

And I forgot to say that Media Player will not write to
the disc either.

If anyone had any suggestions on this you'd make me very
happy.

Have you enabled recording on the device? Right click on the drive, go
to the recording tab, then enable recording from there

Recording IS enabled, but I have noticed that if you
disable recording, it disables access to the drive
completely???

Try two things. First, remove the device from Device Manager
(Start-Run-devmgmt.msc). Second, try updating your chipset (motherboard)
drivers.

Hi thanks again for your help.

I have tried removing the device, and my drivers are up
to date.

I don't understand why Nero works fine, but Windows
Explorer and Media Player wont burn!

Any other suggestions?
