Com ports showing in device manager

I'm am using an HP zt1000 laptop, I am using Win xp Home. I can't see waht
com ports in the device manager. i sthere any way to make them show up. Also
in the modem options it is showing com ports 3,4,5,6,7,8 in use with nothing
hooked up to my laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure the hardware ports are set to 'Auto' in cmos setup. Also possible
you need a bios upgrade.
