COM+ broken

Marcel

I since a couple of weeks, I have the problem that COM+ seems to be
broekn on my machine (Windows XP professional SP3). The symptoms are
that many features no longer work, for instance MSI based installs,
windows update, defragmenting a disk, many features in computer
management ...
In cases where there is an error log from an application, it always
results in error 80040154
Today, I used the tool dcomcnfg.exe and open the "component services"
branch and select "Computers", it crashes and leaves the following
error in the application event log:

<<<<<<<<<<
The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal
state. This indicates a potential instability in the process that
could be caused by the custom components running in the COM+
application, the components they make use of, or other factors. Error
in f:\xpsp3\com\com1x\src\comsvcs\package\cpackage.cpp(1184), hr =
8000ffff: InitEventCollector failed
This is followed by this next message:

<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Any idea how to debug/fix com+ on my computer?
